These current elected people know this but don’t do one thing about but more political theater….so why do we not know where the money went?

I agree with you Dave, but am glad to hear that at least one of our elected officials is sticking his head up to take some of the heat that is inexplicably being generated by uncovering government waste. The rest of the spineless bums have been quiet as church mice while Trump and Musk take all the heat for providing the oversight Congress has miserably failed to provide.

The article mentions that Grassley has had his eyes on it for 20 years. Why no action until now? The heat’s been turned up, that’s why.

Grassley probably did try but was stonewalled repeatedly by lefty who was guarding the hen house

Remember Lois Lerner the place was infested like a roach infested apartment

🤦🏻‍♂️ I’m sadly starting to believe it’s all 🥖 and 🎪 and we are the 🤡 watching no one being held accountable.

This just leads me to the fact that the government is bloated and needs to be cut back to the bare essentials since there is no accountability nor drive to correct it. We have Grassley who has barked about the corruption for years, yet, he hasn’t been able to move the system. Solution: Give ss money back to the people. If my husband and I would have simply invested our money in the SP 500, we would have been way ahead at 78. Makes me not want to pay taxes.

No one cares how other people’s money is spent & therein lies the problem.

Grassley has been watching the Social Security Administration for over 20 years and is only now flagging overpayment? He does not care about it. Most of Congress does not care.

Best as I can tell, Sen. Grassley has been on this problem for 20 years. SSA doesn't do much, if anything, to correct this verification. The various Presidents responsible did nothing. Congress is apparently unable to make the SSA do its job. Rinse and repeat over the entire Executive Branch. Imagine what our national debt would be if Executive branch employees actually did their jobs. $18 trillion instead of $36? Waste, fraud, and abuse are real, and costly, but so is this apparent "do enough to get by" attitude that permeates the federal government. And that costs us all.

SSA spends what it is given. I do not simply blame the SSA, the whole of congress is to be held accountable since they are the ones giving away tax dollars. How many of them do or have time to, read these bills?

It seems the AFI function needs to go out for a true bid. Each transaction should not cost any more than a credit check with today’s available technology. Also, probably need to background check any vendor involved with receiving monies from taxpayer fund and disqualify any vendor with (friends/family) ties to any governmental organization.

Why is our Goober$Mint hiding straight welfare payments to people in SocSec in the first place? Ditto welfare healthcare Medicaid in Medicare.

Separate them out so everyone can see them. Debate Goober$Mint’s roll versus personal-private charity roles. And make SocSec and Medicare more Solvent. Or stop taking it out of paychecks. And pretending they are something other than slush funds to be robbed since LBJ started it. To pay for both his war in Vietnam with out calling up the Reserves. And at the same time pay for his Great Society war on poverty.

The hybrid US private-Goober$Mint healthcare system is already by numbers covered, the largest nationalized western healthcare system.

Vets+Chip/Medicaid+40 million illegals+2/3 Medicare. Since Medicare recipients on average take out 3 times paid in. Is larger than;

UK+Canada+Oz+Scandinavia. And those are only possible because the US military tax dollars protect them.

I sent a link to your article to Linda Benesch (Dir, of Communications) at Social Security Works, suggesting that if we are going to go to the mat to defend this important institution, it would behoove SS Works to clean house and not walk around with a bullseye on its back. So far, no response. Republicans have been gunning for Social Security for decades. Why give them the ammo to continue their assaults! Very disappointing. Thanks for your honest reporting.
