I stopped my 20+ year subscription to Science News in the early 2000’s because the new editrix announced the magazine would no longer be apolitical. She prattled on about how science needed to be political, to advocate and even be partisan. I was disgusted and alarmed, but few people, then, cared or understood the problems this could create. Now, since covid, many people do. I’m glad these changes are being made. Hopefully more changes are coming!

As historian Jon Barry said, "When you mix politics and science, you get politics." The primary result of mixing science and politics is that people will lose trust in science.

I'm deeply grateful that in a world of political deception and media manipulation, Sharyl is a true investigative reporter. She's on "the right side of history" and will be remembered as such.

Civilizational turmoil like ours has the same tendency as War to test and prove who the real heroes are. And though heroes are always few in number, as Shakespeare said, "the fewer men, the greater share of honor."

I subscribed to Scientific American for many years, starting when I was still in college. After medical school, I became a member of the AAAS and read Science Magazine for more than 25 years. Unfortunately, both began a serious leftward drift and I finally had to kill my subscriptions and membership in AAAS. It's a sad sign of the degradation of our University system.

"Science" journalism appears to be as corrupted as mainstream journalism. The Fauci's "proximal origin" coverup of the Wuhan lab involvement in Covid, and his flaunting of restrictions on gain-of-function research are the "proximal" reasons behind his preemptive pardon.

I strongly suspect the $600,000 to WIV is only the tip of the iceberg. The actual amount must be at least two orders of magnitude higher. The money doesn’t tell the whole story, the inclusion of scientists from the Chinese Communist regime in the research projects indicates the deep infiltration of a hostile regime’s intelligence operatives into the United States academia and government research institutes. The Communist Party of China is notorious in using bribes, sex, and ideological brainwashing in recruiting the traitors. The investigation of AAAS for potential treason should be a priority.

Nice timely, factual confrontation of Science News obfuscation attempts.

We need more of similiar.

Drive them into same hole that CNN is finding itself in.

Whatever the government wants me to believe, most likely the opposite is true. I don't believe it was an accidental leak. It was a deliberate release to pave the way for the toxic serums.

Ugh!

These guys are willing to burn-up whatever social capital that they had, and are willing to take the reputation of science down with them.

Thanks for keeping us up to date on this though, Sharyl.

The pharma makers bought a paid for doctors long ago. It was to be expected that their "investments" would include science publications in due time.

Great article! New here. Regarding Science and Nature:

Forgive the nom de guerre. I am a retired chemist, and I don't go by "Dr." here like many, and I like spaghetti westerns.

Back in the day, before too many fumes, I published in both Science and Nature. I got lucky and was working in the area of nanomaterials and phosphors at the time. It was a lifetime honor back then.

Now, these journals are a politicized disgrace, almost the same with PNAS and Applied Physics Letters. My grad school is a now disgraced Ivy. I guess I am an old dinosaur, lol.

Keep up the great work and stop by tucoschild.substack.com
